MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team took down #7 Southwestern Baptist 4-3 at home on Thursday morning for a win over the highest-ranked opponent since joining the Division II ranks.
AUM beats their first ranked team of the season in three tries and improves to 5-3 in 2021. Meanwhile, the Bearcats fall to 8-4 on the year after a road loss to AUM.
"Today was an outstanding win for the ladies," said head coach
Yair Banuelos. "There was a roller coaster of emotions throughout the match, and we were able to play clutch to get the four points. Great college match to be a part of."
With the first two doubles courts being split by each team, Alba De La Torre and
Tonja Foessmeier were able to defeat Southwest Baptist on the second court to secure an all-important doubles point that would eventually give the Warhawks a victory.
