Baseball Takes Series Over UAH with Doubleheader Split

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Auburn Montgomery baseball team claimed their Gulf South Conference weekend series at Alabama-Huntsville two games to one as a result of their doubleheader split with the Chargers on Saturday, March 20.

The Warhawks fell 9-3 in game one and took game two of the twin bill, 7-1. AUM improves to 13-10 overall and 11-10 in GSC play with the split while UAH falls to 11-12 overall and 10-11 in conference action.

GAME ONE
Casey Henderson led AUM at the plate in game one with a pair of RBIs on a pair of base hits. Joseph Hartsfield also slugged two hits, while Grayson Blackwell added an RBI double.

Troy Jones (1-2) took the loss on the mound for AUM in game one. Jones struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while surrendering four earned runs.

The Chargers tallied the game's first run in inning number one, taking advantage of a strikeout resulting in a wild pitch to go up 1-0. A leadoff double, followed by a groundout to second base helped set up the scoring opportunity.

UAH's lead held all the way until inning number six, when Blackwell would even the game at one-all with a double down the right-field line. Zach Feaster helped set up the RBI opportunity by reaching second base on an error by the UAH center fielder one batter prior.

AUM would go on to take a 3-1 lead their next time up courtesy of a two-out, two-RBI single through the left side by C. Henderson. Jackson Ceman and Hartsfield both knocked a one-out base hit to help set up the run-scoring opportunity.

UAH would respond with eight runs over their final two at-bats in the game, tallying four runs on four hits in the seventh and fours runs on a grand slam in the eighth to give way to the 9-3 final.

The Chargers outhit AUM 9-8 in game one, with AUM leaving 10 runners on base in the contest. The Warhawks scored all three of their game-one runs with two outs.

GAME TWO
Landon Pritchett had the hot bat for AUM in game two, driving in five runs on three hits. The sophomore outfielder finished just a double shy of the cycle while also scoring a run.

Corey Armstrong recorded a pair of runs, hits, and RBIs while combining with Pritchett to drive in all seven of the Warhawks' runs.  Quinterrious Arrington notched two hits, two runs and a stolen base.

Ceman also added a pair of hits, with a run scored.

Hunter Viets (2-4) surrendered just one earned run over a season-high eight innings pitched for his second win of the season. The sophomore right-hander struck out eight batters and induced 10 ground-ball outs.

The Chargers plated the first run of the game in inning number two and would hold their 1-0 lead all the way until the fourth inning, when Pritchett's first career homer as a Warhawk would clear the right-field fence and put AUM up 2-1.

AUM would get two more in the fifth, courtesy of RBI singles from Pritchett and Armstrong, and then another run in the seventh via an RBI groundout from Armstrong to go up 5-1.

Pritchett delivered the dagger for AUM in the top of the ninth with a two-RBI triple to right that put AUM up 7-1. Tommy Vickers and Sam Steigert would combine to toss a scoreless ninth inning to give way to the 7-1 final.

The Warhawks will go back to work on Friday, March 26 at Shorter University for game one of their three-game GSC series. First pitch from Rome, Ga. is set for 1:00 p.m. (CST)
