MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Despite outscoring Valdosta State University 3-1 in half number one, the Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team fell 4-3 in double overtime to the Lady Blazers on Friday, March 5 from the AUM Soccer Complex.
With the loss, AUM falls to 1-3 in 2021, while Valdosta State improves to 2-1-1.
Mayson Jaindl led the AUM attack with a pair of goals, marking for her second career two-goal came for the Orange and Black.
Allison McCrimon also contributed for her first goal of the 2021 season.
Julia Pack took a team-high four shots, while
Anila Mantello and Jaindl both logged a pair of shots on goal.
Brianna Yurkovich and
Bryce Varner both added an assist.
Rebecca Jamieson (1-3) took the loss in goal for AUM. The sophomore keeper tallied a season-high nine saves in the setback.
McCrimon broke the scoreless tie in the 13th minute, when she took a flush strike from outside the box that found the back of the net and put the Warhawks up 1-0.
Jaindl's first of two came in the 30th minute, when a failed clearance resulted in the junior forward getting a good look on a header that would tickle the twine to put AUM up 2-0. Varner and Yurkovich helped set up Jaindl's third strike in the 39th minute that put the Warhawks up 3-0.
The Lady Blazers were able to grab a goal off of a corner kick from Kyleigh Reedy to Bailey Hern with just 30 second's remaining in the half to make it a 3-1 game.
VSU's second goal once again came off of a Reedy to Hern corner kick, trimming their deficit to just 3-2 in the 54th minute. Lauren Hicks knocked in the equalizer in the 83rd minute and Rachael Howard delivered the golden goal in the 106th minute to give way to the 4-3 final.
Both teams took 18 shots in the match, with AUM registering six shots on goal and Valdosta State recording 13. AUM took seven corner kicks in the contest while VSU took 10.
The women's soccer team will play their final game of the GSC Spring Championship series on Friday, March 12 against West Georgia. Kickoff from the AUM Soccer Complex is set for 5:30 p.m.
