MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a match that came down to a battle between the top singles players, the No. 23-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team outlasted Valdosta State 4-2 to claim their first-ever Gulf South Conference postseason victory.
The fourth-seeded Warhawks defeated fifth-ranked Valdosta State for their first GSC postseason win, and AUM will move on to face top-seeded West Alabama in the Semifinals.
The Warhawks captured a key doubles point to open the match against Valdosta State. AUM won courts two and three to take an early lead over the Lady Blazers.
Valdosta State battled back in singles play to cut the Warhawk lead down to 3-2 going into the stretch run. With the first two singles court still playing,
Tonja Foessmeier captured a 6-3 victory in the third set to clinch the match for the Orange & Black.

The Warhawks move on to the GSC Semifinals and will face West Alabama tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. West Alabama defeated AUM in their only matchup this season, 7-0 back on April 1.
