Women’s Soccer Falls to Florida Tech to Open Season

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team dropped their 2021 season opener 4-1 to the Panthers of Florida Tech on Friday, Sept. 3.
 
Florida Tech netted their first goal of the game in the 10th minute, followed by a pair of goals in the 34th and 36th minutes to hold a 3-0 lead at the break. The Panthers delivered their final strike of the contest in the 60th minute to go up 4-0.
 
The Warhawks were able to stave off the shutout with a goal in the game's final seconds. Jennifer Beharie netted her first goal as a Warhawk with just three seconds left on the clock after receiving a precise free kick from Anila Mantello into the box to help set up the score.
 
Senior forward Mayson Jaindl led AUM with a pair of shots while Jaindl and Beharie both accounted for a shot on goal.
 
In goal, Karla Gaytan fell to 0-1-0 with the loss. The junior keeper recorded eight saves in the setback.

Newcomers Marijn Kissen, Maggie Flanagan, Kailyn Borngesser, Sydney Garth, Michaelyn Manning, Zerrin Annan, and Gaytan all made their Warhawk debut in the contest. 
 
The women's soccer team will see a week-long hiatus from action before returning to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 10 against Newberry College. Kickoff from Newberry, S.C. is slated for 6:00 p.m. (CST).
