Warhawks Take Triple-Overtime Contest at Buzzer Over Christian Brothers, 83-81

Memphis, Tenn. – Junior forward Deven Tucker knocked down a turnaround jumper off an offensive rebound as time expired to clinch an 83-81 triple overtime victory for the Auburn Montgomery Men's Basketball Team over Gulf South Conference foe Christian Brothers University on Thursday, Jan. 6.

The win improves AUM's record to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in GSC play. The victory also keeps the Warhawks a perfect 2-0 in 2022 and bolsters their all-time record against Christian Brothers to 3-2.

Isaiah Hart led a group of four Warhawks that scored in double figures with 27 points on a 9-18 shooting night with three assists. Hart also converted on seven of eight free throw attempts.

Jeremiah Bozeman tallied 19 points on the night, with 10 points coming in the second and third overtime periods. Bozeman also accounted for seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists while going 7-9 from the charity stripe.

James Graham logged his third double-double of the season with a 13-point, 13-rebound performance while Sam Youngblood added 10 points.

The Warhawks opened up the game by scoring seven of the first nine points, with a Hart three-point play putting AUM up 7-2 at the 17:23 mark.

The Bucs would go on to fight their way back into the contest and trim AUM's advantage to 9-7 at the 15:01 mark, and from there would go on an 11-5 run to take an 18-14 lead over the Warhawks with 8:19 to play.

After a pair of Bozeman free throws made the score 18-16 in favor of CBU, the Bucs would go on to outscore AUM 10-5 for the remainder of the first half and take a 28-21 lead into the break.

AUM outscored CBU 19-8 to begin half number two, with a three-point play by Hart putting AUM up 40-36 at the 14:10 mark. From there, the Bucs would go on to sink their next six shots in a row as part of a 14-3 run to take a 50-43 lead over AUM with 9:51 left to play.

The Warhawks fought back to tie the score at 50-all, and would once against see the score tied with 1:56 left to play after a Hart trey made the score 57-57. Neither team would be able to score in the final minute of regulation, with the score reading 59-59 to force overtime.

Both teams traded baskets in overtime period one. The Warhawks looked primed for victory after a pair of Roderick Smith free throws with seven seconds left put them up 66-65, but a 1-2 trip to the line for CBU on the ensuing possession tied up the score at 66 to force another OT.

AUM put the pressure on CBU early in overtime number two and would hold a 75-69 lead with less than a minute to play. The Bucs would knock down a pair of threes on back-to-back possessions however, including the game-tying trey with just three seconds left, to force the third and final overtime.

Bozeman accounted for six of AUM's eight points in the third overtime, including a pair of game-tying baskets over the final three minutes. Tucker's game-winner at the buzzer was preceded by a missed driving layup from Bozeman that was tipped out by Jelal Williams before finding Tucker.

AUM finished the night 46 percent (29-63) from the floor while shooting 33 percent (5-15) from three and 77 percent (20-26) from the charity stripe. Thursday evening's contest featured 15 tied scored and 14 lead changes.

The Warhawks will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 8 when they take on Union University at 4:00 p.m. (CST) from Jackson, Tenn.
