Volleyball Loses to Embry-Riddle in Final Match at South Region Crossover

HOOVER, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team played their final match in the South Region Crossover and were defeated by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in the Finley Center. 
 
AUM's Reann Cato finished with a season-high of 18 digs and Amber Bretwisch earned 26 assists in the match. Ylenia De Mango had 11 kills for the third time this season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Embry-Riddle won the first set 25-17. AUM led 10-8 and the Eagles rolled off four points in a row to earn a 12-10 lead. ERAU held a 15-14 lead and went on a 10-3 run to win the set. 
  • AUM took the second set 29-27 and held a 23-16 lead before the Eagles rallied nine points to take a one-point lead. The teams traded points and AUM won the set off a 4-1 scoring run to even the match at 1-1. 
  • AUM scored the first point in the third set and Embry Riddle scored the next nine points. ERAU used a couple of 3-0 runs pushing to a 25-11 set win. 
  • Embry-Riddle won the fourth set 25-18 after starting the set off scoring eight of the first 10 points. 
STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Cato had 18 digs which was a season high. 
  • Roberta Monticelli had 10 kills and 11 points. 
  • Alessia Cappai had eight kills, four digs, and 10 points. 
  • AUM had a hitting percentage of .133 and the Eagles had a percentage of .300. 
  • Ylenia De Mango finished with 11 kills and scored 12 points for the Warhawks. 
  • Embry-Riddle had five different players score eight points or more.

"It was a tough week for us," head volleyball coach Flavia Siqueira said. "It seemed like we had two teams within our group, one that was prepared to play high level volleyball and one that was not. We continue to battle with our mental toughness which shows in decisive moments during the match."

UP NEXT

The Warhawks return to GSC play as they travel to Christian Brothers on Friday at 6 PM and play at Union on Oct. 22.
