Volleyball Takes Down UWA 3-0 on Senior Night

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team took down the University of West Alabama 3-0 on Friday night at the AUM Athletics Complex in Gulf South Conference action. 
 
Prior to the match the Warhawks honored Dariona Dash for being the only senior on the team. Dash finished the night with eight kills and 10 points.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Warhawks used a 6-0 run to extend their lead in the first set to 13-4 and pushed to a 25-14 set one victory and gain the early 1-0 lead. 
  • The second set was much like the first set and the Warhawks used a 7-0 run to take a 13-3 lead. The Tigers tried to get back into the set with a 4-0 run but the Warhawks won the second set 25-13. 
  • The Tigers jumped to a 7-4 lead in the third set and AUM rallied back to take a 9-7 lead. The set was back-and-forth until the Warhawks clinched the set and match 25-21. 
STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Alessia Cappai had 15 kills and scored 17 points. 
  • Dariona Dash had eight kills and scored 10 points. 
  • Amber Bretwisch tallied 22 assists and eight digs. 
  • Reann Cato recorded 12 digs. 
  • The Warhawks had 45 kills and 54 digs on the night. 
  • The Warhawks had a hitting percentage of .310. 
  • West Alabama's Nathalia Medeiros had 14 kills.

"Our strength was hitting tonight. All our hitters found different ways to score which helped us get a lead and keep it through the match, "head volleyball coach Flavia Siqueira said. "Even though Dash has been hurt she has continued to give it her all to our program and I am thankful for the opportunity to be her coach,"
