Playoff Preview: Volleyball to Take on MC in Second Round of GSC Championships

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team is set to play against the Choctaws of Mississippi College on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the second round of the Gulf South Conference Championships at the UWF Fieldhouse in Pensacola, Florida. 
 
The Warhawks are carrying a 16-17 overall record and finished the regular season at 8-8 in conference action. The Choctaws are sporting a 23-6 record and wrapped up the conference slate at 12-4. 
 
Auburn Montgomery knocked off No. 6 seed Valdosta State University on Nov. 7 by a final score of 3-1 to advance to the second round. MC earned a bye and is the No. 3 seed in the bracket. 
 
This will be the third time that the teams have met with the Choctaws taking the two matches with an 3-1 and 3-0 victory.

FIVE ON THE WARHAWKS
  • Ylenia De Mango was the only AUM player to receive All-GSC honors carrying 306 kills and has a team-high hitting percentage of .299 and has 82 blocks on the defensive side. 
  • Kendall McCain leads the Warhawks with 329 kills and 288 digs. The freshman's 329 kills are second most in the GSC. McCain has 37 service aces this season. 
  • Amber Bretwisch has 770 assists this season and surpassed 1,000 career-assists. She is currently sitting at 1,200 assists as a Warhawk. 
  • Alessia Cappai has won GSC Freshman of the Week for the past two weeks and has tallied 253 kills on 726 total attacks this season. 
  • Savannah Sebek has dished out 343 assists and has averaged 4.34 assists per set. She has chipped in with 165 digs. 
FIVE ON THE CHOCTAWS
  • The Choctaws set a program record with four All-GSC selections including Caroline Chastang, Lexie Laurendine, Lydia Paulette, and Kendall Platt. Carolins Chastang took home GSC Freshman of the Year honors. 
  • Chastang tallied 330 kills during the regular season and averages 3.14 kills per set. 
  • Laurendine has 683 assists and has 36 service aces. She has a hitting percentage of .329. 
  • Paulette has 287 kills and has 42 service aces this season. Defensively she has 55 blocks. 
  • Platt has 243 kills on 774 total attacks. She leads the Choctaws with 46 service aces.
