No. 13 West Florida Defeats AUM in Final Regular Season Match

PENSACOLA, Fla. -  The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team dropped a road Gulf South Conference match at the 13th ranked University of West Florida Argonauts by a final score of 3-1 inside the UWF Field House in the final match of the 2022 regular season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • West Florida won the first set 25-9 by using a 11-0 run to take the momentum and take a 1-0 lead in the match. 
  • Auburn Montgomery trailed 10-4 and the Argos rallied to take set two 25-17. West Florida went up 2-0 in the match. 
  • AUM and West Florida traded points in the third set until the Argos had a 21-17 lead. The Warhawks bounced back to tie the match 21-21. AUM rallied late to take a 26-24 win in the third set and make the score 2-1. 
  • The Argos held a 16-12 lead in the third set and rattled off a 7-0 run to help push them to a 25-14 set victory. With the set win, the Argos took the match 3-1. 
STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Kendall McCain had 15 kills for the second time this season and scored 16 points. 
  • Alessia Cappai tallied 12 kills in the match. 
  • Savannah Sebek dished out a career-high of 34 assists and tied her career-high of 13 digs. 
  • Reann Cato had 17 digs and five assists with two aces. 
  • West Florida's Taylor Vaneekeren had 47 assists.

"Despite that we lost the match tonight, our players worked extremely hard adapting to a new lineup," head volleyball coach Flavia Siqueira said. "I was pleased with our intensity and focus during the match.

The AUM volleyball team will play in the first round of the GSC Tournament at Valdosta State University on Monday. The start time will be announced at a later time.
