Playoff Preview: Warhawks Travel to Valdosta State For Volleyball Rematch

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the second time this weekthe Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team is set to travel to Valdosta, Georgia for the opening round of the 2022 Gulf South Conference Championship to take on Valdosta State University on Monday at 5 p.m. at The Complex. 
 
The two teams squared off on Nov. 3rd and it went to five sets as Valdosta State managed to earn the victory 3-2. 
 
AUM finished the regular season at 15-17 overall and 8-8 in GSC play earning the No. 7 seed in the bracket. The Blazers will serve as the No. 6 seed. The winner of the match will play the University of Montevallo in the second round at the University of West Florida on Nov. 11. 
 
In the last match against the Blazers, AUM's Alessia Cappai had a season-high of 19 kills and tied her season-high of 16 digs.

  • Tickets for the quarterfinal match at Valdosta State can be purchased at the door at The Complex. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for youth ages.  
FIVE ON THE WARHAWKS
 
  • Kendall McCain, a freshman from Trinity, Florida, leads the Warhawks with 319 kills this season and has 281 digs. McCain has 35 service aces for AUM which is the most of any Warhawk.  
  • Ylenia De Mango has 296 kills and has scored 360 points and has a hitting percentage of .303. 
  • Amber Bretwisch has 743 assists and averages 7.08 assists per set this season. The junior has chipped in with 236 digs. 
  • Reann Cato has played as the libero for AUM and tallied 245 digs during the regular season with 2.61 per set. 
  • Alessia Cappai has 232 kills this season and has 16 service aces. 
 
FIVE ON THE BLAZERS
  • Jojo Smith leads the Blazers with 314 kills on 961 total attacks and has just over 368 points. 
  • Giulia Dias dished out 420 assists for Valdosta State during the regular season.
  • VSU's Lyara Rosario has 65 service aces and adds 402 digs. She averages 4.06 digs per set. 
  • Christina Pettigrew has 115 blocks for the Blazers and has chipped in with 181 kills. 
  • Valdosta State finished the conference schedule 7-1 in the last eight matches with the only loss coming at Union.
