Union Edges Men's Basketball 92-87 in Overtime Thriller

JACKSON, Tenn. -- Travis Anderson scored 27 points off the bench for the Auburn University at Montgomery men's basketball team, including a pair of free throws to tie the game 81-81 with 0.5 seconds left in regulation, but Union University went 9-for-10 from the free throw line in overtime to seal the victory.

Anderson scored his 27 points in 30 minutes off the bench in his return to the lineup after missing a pair of games. Joseph Lanzi added 19 points and four three-pointers for the Warhawks. Deven Tucker also scored a career-high 12 points.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Both teams battled back and forth in the first half, as neither team led by more than two possessions.
  • Union took a 34-33 lead with six seconds left in the half, but Jalen Gaston found Travis Anderson in the right corner, and Anderson delivered a fall afall-awayway three-pointer to give AUM a 36-34 lead at the break.
  • Anderson (12) and Roderick Smith (6) combined for 18 points off the bench in the first half of action.
  • A Smith hook shot trimmed the Union lead to three at the 12:25 mark left in the game, but a 9-2 spurt by the Bulldogs was helped by two offensive rebounds by Tylandrius Parks.
  • Down 79-70 with 1:52 to play, the Warhawks used an 11-2 run to force overtime. 
  • Lanzi added two free throws and a three-pointer in the late run, and Anderson drained two free throws with 0.5 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 81-81 and send it to overtime.
  • Both teams did not have much left in the tank in overtime, as the two squads combined for just three field goals. 
  • Union did enough to outscore the Warhawks 11-6 in overtime to seal the win. Bulldogs went 9-of-10 from the foul line in overtime, while AUM made just two field goals and went just 2-of-5 from the foul line.
NOTABLES
  • Anderson scored 27 points in 30 minutes off the bench in his return to the lineup to lead the Warhawks.
  • Deven Tucker also turned in a career-high 12 points. He added three rebounds and two assists. The game marks the first of his career in double-figures.
  • AUM was out-rebounded for just the third time this season as Union had a 46-36 advantage on the boards.
  • There were nine ties and 15 lead changes. Six ties and 12 of the lead changes came in the first half.
  • AUM owned advantages of 40-20 in bench scoring and 38-16 in points in the paint.
  • Tylandrius Parks had 20 points, 18 rebounds, and nine assists to lead the Bulldogs to their fifth consecutive win.
