#11 Warhawks Take Final Two Games Of Red-White-Blue Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The 11th-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team earned a commanding 6-0 win over Georgia College in game one of the day before besting the host Columbus State Cougars in dramatic fashion 3-2.

The Warhawks are now 8-3 on the year after two wins at the Red-White-Blue Classic. Wingate finished the tournament with a 3-1 record, while Columbus State reached a 2-2 mark, and Georgia College concluded the tournament with a 1-3 mark.

Freshman starter Morgan Ferguson recorded her fifth win of the season and moved to 5-0 on the year after a dominant complete-game shutout in game one against Georgia College. She threw all seven innings, allowing two hits while striking out eight.

After a dominant first two innings from Ferguson, Brown, who earned her first career start, launched a two-run home run over the left centerfield wall to score Lexi Love and give AUM an early 2-0 lead over Georgia College.

After the two pitchers kept their opposing offenses in check, in the bottom of the fourth, Chloe Derrick gave AUM a three-run lead after an RBI bunt single scored Gia Martin. With the bases loaded later in the inning, Alex Howard drew a pinch-hit hit-by-pitch to score AUM's fourth run.

The scoring in the fifth inning concluded when Kat Fallen stepped up and seared a bloop double over the shortstop's head to score Love and Faith Wheat to secure the final run scored of the game for the Warhawks.

The Warhawks in game two struggled to get things going offensively as they were held without a run through the first five innings of the game. AUM used the pitching of Hannah Creel to keep the Cougar offense in check.

In the circle, Creel threw all seven innings for AUM, allowing five hits while allowing two runs. Fallen secured the tiebreaking hit, launching her first home run of the season over the centerfield wall to break a scoreless tie.

Creel and the Warhawks held the Columbus State offense in check as the graduate transfer from Mississippi College was on her game early as she did not allow her first hit of the game until the third inning.

Fallen opened the scoring in the sixth inning with a solo shot over the centerfield wall to kick things off in the inning, giving the Warhawks their first lead of the night. With Aycock on third base, rookie Wheat hit a soft popup behind the third basemen, but the shortstop fell down after making the out, allowing Aycock to score from third.

Martin created some havoc on the bases late in the sixth inning. After taking off from third after a throwdown from the catcher, an errant throw from the second baseman allowed the sophomore third baseman to run the lead to 3-0.

Creel was able to finish off a great night in the circle, getting the first two batters to ground out and strikeout before allowing a pair of baserunners. The Warhawks opted to intentionally walk the Cougar slugger Hannah Rose Corbin, running the score to 3-1.

The next batter laced a single into centerfield to score Columbus State's second run of the day, but Wheat fielded the groundball up the middle and fired a strike to Love's glove to nail the tying run at home plate.

The Warhawks are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday when they will travel to Fairfield, Alabama, to take on Miles College in an away doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
