Tamia Willingham-King, the Montevallo Falcons stole a 70-59 road win on Saturday afternoon.
The Warhawks finish their 2021-22 season with a 6-19 record. AUM earned five wins at home and added a road win against Trevecca Nazarene. Montevallo finishes the season with a 13-15 record and a 9-11 mark in conference action. The Falcons will be the eighth seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Carter led the Warhawks in scoring in her final game as a Warhawk. She posted a team-high 25 points and finished two rebounds shy of a double-double. Moore was the only other Warhawk to score at least 10 points, finishing the game with 11.
The Warhawks started the scoring in the first quarter, though both teams struggled to find offensive consistency to begin play in the first. Montevallo had the slight edge over the Warhawks in the first quarter, as they had a slim 12-11 lead over AUM before extending their lead to 15-11 at the end of the first period.
Montevallo continued their momentum they earned at the end of the first quarter into the start of the second. The Warhawks were able to keep their deficit at four points three minutes into the second period but a modest 5-3 run from the Falcons stretched their lead out to six. Despite a 3-pointer from Willingham-King, the Falcons would find success beyond the arc to stretch their lead out to 12 and would lead 38-26 after 20 minutes of action.
Montevallo extended their 13-2 run into the start of the third quarter and pushed their advantage over AUM to 43-26 early in the second half. The Falcons were able to gain a 20-point lead over the Warhawks at the media timeout of the third quarter and led 59-32 heading into the final quarter.
Senior forward Moore ended an 8-0 run in the Warhawks' first possession of the fourth quarter, converting a three-point play after being fouled in the paint. Both programs utilized a variety of players down the stretch as both sides emptied their bench in the fourth quarter. In the end, Montevallo would come away with a 70-59 win.
