#17 Warhawks Continue Dominance Over #12 Nighthawks After Doubleheader Sweep

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After a 12-3 and 3-0 win over 12th-ranked North Georgia on Tuesday afternoon, the 17th-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team captured their fourth-straight win over the Nighthawks.

The Warhawks finish the day with a 21-6 record, while North Georgia falls to 23-10 after two losses to AUM. The Warhawks close the month of March with a 9-1 record at the AUM Softball Complex.

Kat Fallen was the game one standout for the Warhawks, going 3-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs. Freshmen Chloe Derrick and Lexi Love netted multi-hit efforts in the game one victory.

The Warhawks struck early in the first game against North Georgia. Derrick was able to connect on a single to score Olivia Aycock and the game's first run. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, freshman backstop Love laced a single up the middle to clear the bases after the centerfielder had trouble fielding the ball.

AUM pushed their lead even further in the bottom of the second. With Shelby Newsome on base, Fallen launched a two-run home run over the party deck in centerfield to give the Warhawks a 6-0 lead over North Georgia.

The Nighthawks were able to answer back in the top of the third off AUM starter Brinkley Yevak after an RBI triple and an RBI single cut the AUM lead to 6-2. However, AUM was able to answer in the bottom of the third when Fallen netted her third RBI of the game to push across AUM's seventh run.

Molly Cobb connected on a home run later in the inning, scoring Aycock and Newsome to give AUM an eight-run lead. Alex Howard came in as a pinch hitter and brought home Gia Martin on a bunt single. Derrick would later come around to score on a wild pitch to give AUM their 12th run of the game.

AUM needed just five innings to beat North Georgia, marking the third time this season the Warhawks run-ruled an opponent.

Derrick had a great game two for AUM, she went 2-3 at the plate with a two-run triple. Catcher Margaret Morgan was the only other Warhawk to record at least two hits in game two against the Nighthawks.

Junior hurler Alanna Goble continued her hot stretch of action in the circle, going the distance against North Georgia. She allowed just three hits and struck out three batters on her way to her fourth win of the year.

AUM was able to strike first again against UNG. Derrick ripped a two-out, two-run triple down the right-field line to score Fallen and Cobb to give the Warhawks a 2-0 lead.

The Warhawks were able to get their third run of the game after an RBI groundout from Howard secured the three runs AUM needed to sweep North Georgia.

The Warhawks will continue their stretch of games against nationally-ranked opponents. AUM will head to Pensacola this weekend for a three-game series against No. 11 West Florida. The first of three games is set to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
