#17 Softball Gets RBIs from Seven Different Players To Earn Series Sweep Over #11 West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 17th-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team earned a commanding 8-1 victory over Gulf South Conference foe and 11th-ranked West Florida on the road on Sunday afternoon.

AUM soars to 24-6 on the year and has now won seven straight games. The Warhawks move to 12-3 on the year while West Florida sees their overall record drop to 18-7 and fall to 12-3 in GSC play after entering the weekend undefeated in conference action.

Alanna Goble continued the strong string of pitching from the Warhawk staff with another complete game against West Florida. She threw all seven innings for AUM and did not surrender an earned run while striking out six Argos.

The Warhawks saw RBIs from Olivia Aycock, Kat Fallen, Gia Martin, Chloe Derrick, Alex Howard, Lexie Bullock, and Faith Wheat in Sunday's contest, while Aycock, Molly Cobb, and Wheat gained multi-hit efforts in the win.

Aycock got the Warhawks up and running on the right foot in game three against West Florida, lacing a leadoff triple past the left fielder. Fallen was able to bring her home in her first at-bat of the day, grounding out to allow Aycock to score.

The early lead from AUM would not last long as Chelseas Dumas was able to lay down a bunt that would score a run on a pair of errors from the AUM defense resulting in a 1-1 tie after an inning of action in Pensacola.

AUM answered back in the top of the second and started the scoring after Margaret Morgan laid down a bunt that allowed Allie Miller to score. With Haley Ann Frank standing on third base, Wheat laced a triple down the left-field line to give AUM a 4-1 lead.

After a Derrick sac fly gave AUM a 5-1 lead in the third inning, Goble was able to work around a bases-loaded one-out jam to keep the Argos off the board, preserving the 5-1 lead for the Warhawks.

Martin added an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning, and in the seventh, Howard added some insurance for AUM, connecting on a pinch-hit single to push AUM's lead to 7-1. Bullock would add the final run of the game for AUM later in the inning, scoring Derrick on a sac fly.

AUM will play the final two games of a five-game road trip on Tuesday, March 29, when they travel to Fairfield, Alabama, to take on the Miles College Golden Bears. The doubleheader action against the SIAC opponent is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
