#12 Softball Splits First Two Games Of Lee Series

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The 12th-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team settled for a split to start the three-game series against Gulf South Conference foe Lee on Saturday, earning a 5-2 win in game one before falling 6-3 in game two.

Lee snaps AUM's eight-game winning streak as the Warhawks fall to 14-4 on the year after the two games today and 4-1 in GSC play. Lee ends the day with an 8-10 record overall and a 2-5 record in conference action.

Kat Fallen was the leader of the Warhawk offense in game one as she went deep twice while driving in four of AUM's five runs in the opening game. Outfielder Haley Ann Frank also had a great day at the plate, going 3-4.

Morgan Ferguson earned her eighth win of the season after throwing all seven innings against the Lady Flames. She went the distance for the seventh time this season and allowed two runs with three strikeouts while scattering seven hits.

AUM's offense started with a bang in their second GSC series of the year. After Frank singled and Olivia Aycock reached on an error, Fallen came up later in the inning and launched her third home run of the season to put the Warhawks ahead 3-0.

When the sophomore slugger came back up to the plate in the fourth inning, she connected on her second home run of the game to extend the AUM lead to 4-0. The Warhawks' scoring finished in the seventh after a Frank single scored Shelby Newsome.

Lee ended Ferguson's shutout bid in the bottom of the seventh, as a safety squeeze and an RBI double gave the Lady Flames two runs in the final inning, but the Warhawks prevailed for the 5-2 win.

The Warhawk offense in game two struggled through the first six innings of play, although Newsome and Aycock were able to net multi-hit efforts in the contest.

Avery Dickerson earned her first start of the season but ran into some trouble in the second inning after an RBI single gave Lee an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Flames were able to add to their advantage in the bottom of the third, striking for three runs after scoring on a wild pitch and later launching a two-run home run.

The Lady Flames were able to add a run that would be charged to Brinkley Yevak working in relief, as a sacrifice fly plated two runs on the play after a throwing error by Newsome in right field, allowing Lee to gain two insurance runs.

AUM attempted a dramatic comeback in the top of the seventh, as Aycock platted Newsome on an RBI single to open the scoring in the seventh. Recent NFCA Player of The Week Chloe Derrick was able to drive home two runs on a harmless grounder to the second basemen, but the Warhawks were unable to add any more offense and fell 6-3.

The Warhawks and Lady Flames will meet again tomorrow afternoon at noon to decide the winner of the three-game series.
