#12 AUM Drops Series Finale To Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The 12th-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team dropped the series finale to Gulf South Conference foe Lee 11-3 to drop two out of the three games to the Lady Flames over the weekend.

The Warhawks fall in five innings for the first time since April 2018 and now stand at 14-5 in 2022 with a 4-2 GSC play. Lee improves to 9-10 overall with a 3-5 mark in GSC action.

Morgan Ferguson was tabbed for her first loss of the season and was not able to make it out of the first inning. Chloe Derrick was a bright spot offensively, launching a two-run home run for her team-leading fifth of the season.

The Lee offense came to play in the series finale against the Warhawks, scoring nine runs in the first inning. The scoring started with a leadoff home run and was later followed by a three-run double. Lee connected on their second double of the inning to plate two more runs to run the score to 6-0.

With more runners in scoring position later in the inning, the Lady Flames connected on a two-run triple to push their lead to eight. The scoring finally ended in the first after a successful attempt to steal home. Lee's scoring on the day ended in the bottom of the second after their second two-run double of the game gave Lee an 11-0 lead.

The Warhawks would not be shut out as in the top of the third, Derrick launched her fifth home run of the season to score Haley Ann Frank. Later in the inning, Gia Martin was able to push across her 31st RBI of the season, but it would be the last run AUM was able to score.

The Warhawks will return to action on Saturday, March 12, when they host Mississippi College for a three-game series at the AUM Softball Complex. The action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., and the game will be a rematch of last summer's GSC championship game.
