Baseball Breaks out Brooms with Game-Three Victory at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Auburn Montgomery Baseball Team clinched a Gulf South Conference series sweep at Christian Brothers with a 7-3 win in game three over the Buccaneers on Sunday, April 24.

The victory improves AUM's record to 28-17 overall and 16-11 in GSC play.

Sam Steigert (3-3) tossed a career-high seven shutout innings out of the bullpen to earn the win. The senior sidewinder gave up just four hits and struck out four on the day.

Zach Dew, Brody Syer, Zach Feaster, and Matthew Marfice all knocked a pair of hits and recorded an RBI in the contest. Kasey Clark drove in a game-high two runs while Nick Freeman scored three times.

AUM tallied the game's first run in the top of the first, using a one-out double from Feaster to left center to go up 1-0. Freeman worked a leadoff walk to begin the game before being brought home by the senior catcher's two-base knock.

After conceding a pair of runs to the Bucs in the first on an RBI sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout, the Warhawks tied the contest at two-all via RBI sac fly from Hartsfield to right in the top of the second. Marfice led off the frame with a base hit and was later brought around to third after a base on balls by Micah Christian and a Buccaneer wild pitch.

The Bucs were once again quick to respond, taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second on a solo shot by Keegan Voss. Kasey Clark tied the game back up in the Warhawks' next at-bat by producing a bases-loaded sac fly.

The 3-3 score would hold all the way until the top of the seventh, when Dew's RBI two-bagger to left center put AUM up 4-3. Syer would follow suit one batter later with an RBI single to left that put the Warhawks on top 5-3.

The Warhawks added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth, taking advantage of Clark's second RBI sac fly of the day and an RBI single from Marfice to left field before giving way to the 7-3 final score.

The Warhawks will return to action on Tuesday, April 26 at Miles College. First pitch from Fairfield, Ala. is set for 12:00 p.m.
