#18 Warhawks Advance To GSC Semifinals After Commanding 4-1 Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 18th-ranked and second-seeded Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team defeated seventh-seeded and Gulf South Conference rival Lee on Thursday afternoon to open the GSC postseason tournament.

The Warhawks advance to the semifinals for the second year in a row and are now 16-6 in 2022 and 2-1 all-time in GSC tournament games. Lee's season ends in the quarterfinals and will end 2022 with a 6-11 record.

After splitting the first two doubles courts to open the match, Alba De La Torre and Isabella Pinto captured a dramatic 7-5 win in the third flight to capture an important doubles point and an early 1-0 lead over the Lady Flames.

Sofia Navarro and Ana Villalvazo were able to net straight-set victories against Lee in the first and fourth flights to boost AUM's lead to 3-0. De La Torre was able to once again come through for the Warhawks in the six slot, earning a 7-6, 6-4 win to punch the Warhawks' ticket to the semis.

The Warhawks will look to continue their run through the Gulf South Conference tournament tomorrow afternoon when they will play the three seed West Florida at 2:30 p.m. AUM defeated UWF 4-3 on April 8.
