#18 AUM Punches Program’s First Ticket To GSC Title Match

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team captured a 4-3 marathon victory in the Gulf South Conference quarterfinals over third-seeded West Florida on Friday afternoon.

AUM clinches their first-ever trip to the Gulf South Conference title match and improve their record 17-6 overall in 2022. West Florida finishes their season with a 14-11 mark in 2022.


Despite dropping the doubles point against the Argos, AUM rebounded in a dramatic way in singles competition. Estefania Garcia rallied from dropping the first set to claim a key victory in the second singles flight, while Ana Villalvazo and Ane Ibarra saw wins in their matches as well.


With the score even at three a side, Sofia Navarro split the first two sets in number one singles. Entering hour number four of her match against Sara Yigin, Navarro flipped the switch and finished the match with a dominating 6-1 win to clinch AUM's appearance in the title game.

The Warhawks will now face West Alabama in tomorrow's title game with a chance to win the program's first Gulf South Conference championship. The Tigers and Warhawks will do battle at 10 a.m. tomorrow from Lagoon Park.
