Lovrich Logs 300th Win in Doubleheader Split with Shorter

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Auburn Montgomery Baseball Head Coach Marty Lovrich picked up career win number 300 in the Warhawks' doubleheader split with Shorter University in Gulf South Conference action on Friday, April 29.

The Warhawks took game one 12-3 and fell 2-0 in game two. AUM's record now sits at 29-19 overall and 17-12 in GSC play.

GAME ONE
Nick Freeman had the hot bat in game one, knocking three hits and scoring three times. Brody Syer drove in a game-high three runs while Matthew Marfice and Zach Feaster each collected a pair of RBIs.

Caleb Beaver and Joseph Hartsfield each recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run, with Hartsfield scoring twice.

Michael Myers (4-1) tossed the final 1.1 innings to earn his fourth win of the season, striking out two and surrendering zero hits. Starter Luke Turner hurled the first 5.2 innings, conceding just three runs and striking out four.

Freeman led off the bottom of the first with a double to left, and was later brought in on an RBI groundout from Syer to give AUM the early 1-0 lead. Shorter would answer its next time up by launching a solo home in the top of the second and would crank another solo round-tripper in the top of the fourth to go up 2-1.

AUM regained the lead in the bottom half of the fourth, using an RBI hit batsman from Beaver and a bases-loaded walk from Syer to go up 3-2. A leadoff walk by Kasey Clark, followed by a hit batsman from Marfice and a single from Hartsfield, set the table for thee Warhawks in the inning.

Shorter once again tied up the score in the top of the sixth on an RBI single through the left side, but the AUM offense would respond with a five-run bottom of the sixth to go up 8-3. A pair of bases-loaded RBI singles from Zach Dew and Feaster and RBI bases on balls from Clark and Marfice accounted for the damage done in the frame.

AUM once again loaded up the bases in the bottom of the seventh, with singles by Clayton Phillips, Freeman, and Beaver starting off the frame. An RBI walk from Syer, a Hawk wild pitch and throwing error, and a Marfice RBI single made up for the scoring action in the seventh.

GAME TWO
Andrew Cronan (8-3) took the tough-luck loss, giving up just two earned runs over 6.2 innings. Syer, Dew, Hartsfield, and Jake Spivey all registered a hit for AUM.

Shorter got all of the runs that they needed in inning number five, cashing in on a solo home run and an RBI single through the right side to grab a 2-0 advantage.

Jonathan Pintaro (9-3) spun a gem for the Hawks, conceding just four base hits and striking out 12 in the shutout.

The Warhawks and Hawks will play the rubber match of their three-game series on Saturday, April 30 at 12:00 p.m. from Q.V. Lowe Field.
