MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In their first-ever appearance in the Gulf South Conference championship match, the 18
th-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 contest to West Alabama on Saturday morning.
The Warhawks, who are hopeful for a spot in the NCAA tournament, will end the GSC tournament with a 2-1 record and now sport at 17-7 record in 2022. West Alabama repeats as Gulf South Conference champions.
The all-important doubles point was tightly contested between the two teams, as the first doubles flight for AUM cruised to a 6-2 win, but the Tigers responded with wins in the second and third courts to take an early 1-0 lead over the Warhawks.
After a four-hour marathon math yesterday,
Sofia Navarro handles the top singles player for West Alabama, winning 6-3, 6-1. Navarro's win, however, was the only victory AUM grabbed in singles play, leading to a 4-1 win for West Alabama.

The Warhawks will now await the NCAA selection show which will determine whether or not AUM will continue to play in 2022. The NCAA tournament field will be revealed on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. on ncaa.com
