Goble Fires 6.2 Innings Of No-Hit Ball In #11 AUM’s 2-0 Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Junior hurler Alanna Goble flirted with her second-career no-hitter on Sunday afternoon, allowing zero hits through 6.2 innings of work, propelling the 11th-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team to a 2-0 win over West Alabama.

AUM has now won their last 10 games and improves to 27-6 in 2022. Additionally, the Warhawks climb to 15-3 in GSC play, while West Alabama falls to 9-9 with an overall record of 17-16.

After Goble walked the second batter of the day, the Tigers would go without a baserunner until a two-out double in the seventh ended the junior's no-hit bid. Goble finished the afternoon with six strikeouts for her sixth win of the season.

Shelby Newsome connected on her second home run of the season in the bottom of the third to give the Warhawks all the runs they would need to take down the Gulf South Conference in-state rival.

The Warhawks were held in check through the first eight batters of the game, as like the Tigers, AUM was held hitless until Newsome came to bat in the bottom of the third. The newcomer launched her second homer of the season over the left-field fence to put AUM ahead 1-0.

Goble was electric in the circle throughout the game against West Alabama, winning her fifth-straight game. In each of her last five starts, she has thrown a complete game without surrendering an earned run.

Kat Fallen was able to add some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Newsome on an RBI double that rang off the bottom of the centerfield wall.

After a strikeout and a popout started the Tiger's half of the seventh inning, designated player Nicole Buccieri placed a ball in the left-center gap. The ball landed just outside the diving arms of centerfielder Allie Miller to break up Goble's no-hit efforts.

Goble got pinch hitter Grace Self to pop out in foul territory to Chloe Derrick to secure AUM's 2-0 win and the series sweep over West Alabama.

The Warhawks will continue their run against Gulf South Conference foes next weekend when Union University comes to Montgomery. AUM will host the Bulldogs for a three-game series, beginning on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.
