#9 Warhawks Sniff Out 18 Runs For Doubleheader Sweep Of Union

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The ninth-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery used 18 runs to down Gulf South Conference foe Union twice at home to win their 12th game in a row. AUM won 10-2 and 8-0 against the Bulldogs on Saturday.

AUM improves to 29-6 in 2022 and boasts a 17-3 record in Gulf South Conference action. Union falls to 13-23 on the year with a 7-13 record in GSC play. Saturday's games marked the first time Union has traveled to Montgomery to play at the AUM Softball Complex.

Morgan Ferguson earned her 11th win of the season after throwing four innings in game one. She limited the Bulldogs to four hits while striking out seven. Brinkley Yevak threw two innings in relief of Ferguson and did not allow a hit.

Molly Cobb, Kat Fallen, Gia Martin, and Haley Ann Frank all netted multi-hit efforts. Frank went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Martin tallied two triples and an RBI in the Warhawks' win against Union.

AUM, like so many times in 2022, struck first in the opening game against Union. Cobb laced a single up the middle to score Fallen to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, with Allie Miller on second base, Lexi Love laid a bunt down to the catcher, allowing Miller to use her speed to add AUM's second run.

After Union grabbed a run in the top of the third, Martin netted her first triple of the day to score Shelby Edgeworth. Later in the inning, Miller laid down a bunt to score Martin to run the score to 4-1. Frank recorded her first RBI of the day after netting an infield single to score Love.

AUM stretched their lead to 9-2 in the bottom of the fifth after Fallen singled off the leg of the Union pitcher, allowing Frank and Lexie Bullock to score. The Warhawks would walk off Union in the bottom of the sixth when Martin scored on a wild pitch.

Hannah Creel got the start in game two for AUM and went the distance against Union to pick up her fourth win of the season. The senior threw five innings and allowed three hits while striking out six.

Fallen added two more hits in game two against the Bulldogs, while senior shortstop Olivia Aycock went 2-3 at the plate with a triple and an RBI.

The scoring in game two began right off the hop of AUM. Aycock led off the game with a triple to left-center and the next batter, Fallen, laced a double into right-center to put AUM ahead 1-0. Fallen would later come home to score on a Martin RBI single.

With AUM ahead 3-0 in the third, Margaret Morgan laced an RBI single through the left side to score Martin. Frank singled to the third basemen with the bases loaded to push the lead to 5-0, while the next batter, Shelby Newsome, recorded an RBI groundout to add the sixth run of the game for AUM.

The scoring in game two finished later in the same inning as Aycock singled to the Union pitcher and created a distraction on the bases, which led to two runs scoring for the Warhawks.

AUM will wrap up the series with Union tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. With a win tomorrow, the Warhawks would record their 30th win of 2022.
