Goble Blanks Sharks, Fallen Ties RBI Record As #3 Warhawks Advance To South Region 1 Title Game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The third-ranked and top-seeded Auburn University at Montgomery softball team used a convincing 8-0 win over fourth-seeded Nova Southeastern to advance to Saturday's championship game.

The Warhawks are now 2-0 in the tournament after earning a win against Tuskegee yesterday and an 8-0 win over the Sharks this afternoon. AUM also nets their 20th win of the season at the AUM Softball Complex.

Kat Fallen tied the single-season RBI record in the top of the sixth with an RBI single to left-center. She went 2-4 at the plate while recording her 57th RBI of the season. Shelby Newsome also had a stellar day at the dish, as she extended her on-base streak to 31 games.

Junior starter Alanna Goble fired six scoreless innings against the Sharks in her second start of the tournament. She allowed just three his and struck out four batters to earn her 14th win of the season. Avery Dickerson slung a scoreless seventh inning for AUM.

AUM had an opportunity to jump out to a huge lead in the first inning, as after a Fallen single caused an error from the shortstop that allowed Olivia Aycock to score, the Warhawks had the bases loaded with one out but could not push across more than one run in the first inning.

Both starting pitchers settled in after the first inning, as it wasn't until the top of the fourth that a team was able to net a run. The senior shortstop Aycock was able to produce AUM's second run of the game after lifting a sac fly into foul territory to give AUM a 2-0 lead.

After a leadoff triple from Fallen, Gia Martin was able to bring home a run on a sacrifice fly to run the score to 3-0. The next batter, Chloe Derrick, launched her fourth home run in five games and 12th overall into the Christmas tree in left field to add the fourth run of the game for AUM.

Records fell in the top of the sixth inning as Fallen laced a ball into left-center field for her 57th RBI of the season to bring home Aycock. Her RBI single, along with a contribution from Shelby Newsome earlier in the inning, gave AUM a 6-0 lead after six.

Haley Ann Frank was able to add the seventh run of the game in the top of the seventh inning to score Lexi Love, while Aycock raced an RBI single into left field to score Faith Wheat to give the Warhawks their eventual 8-0 win.

The Warhawks will await the winner of game five before finding out who they will face in the championship game tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. AUM will need to be defeated twice tomorrow afternoon to be eliminated.
