#3 Warhawks Advance To Super Regional After Thrilling Game Seven Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team used a dramatic game-seven win to advance to their first-ever NCAA Super Regional. AUM defeated Alabama Huntsville 3-0 after dropping a 4-2 game earlier in the day.

The Warhawks finish the south regional with a 3-1 record after defeating Tuskegee, Nova Southeastern, and Alabama Huntsville. AUM will hold the season series victory over UAH after winning four of seven matchups between the two schools.

The Warhawks fell 4-2 in game one against the Chargers, which forced a deciding seventh game in the bracket. AUM used Alanna Goble, Morgan Ferguson, and Hannah Creel in game one. Shelby Newsome was a bright spot offensively, going 2-3 with a home run.

UAH jumped out to an early 4-0 lead over the Warhawks after a misplaced ball went by Newsome in right field. One run scored on the play, and UAH used to momentum to add three more scores to their total before the inning was over.

Newsome used a late home run to give the Warhawks some hope in the sixth inning with a blast over the left-field wall. In the top of the seventh, Haley Ann Frank recorded an RBI single to cut the UAH lead in half, but the Warhawks still fell 4-2 in the contest.

Game two on the day was dominated by Goble. After earning her second start of the day, she fired a complete-game, three-hit shutout to handle the Charger offense. On offense, Kat Fallen became the single-season RBI record holder after recording her 58th RBI of the season to put AUM ahead 1-0.

In the top of the sixth, Aycock recorded a two-run through the left side to push the Warhawk lead to 3-0 over UAH. Goble continued her dominance and ended any hope of UAH extending their season with a 1-2-3 seventh inning to complete the regional victory.

The Warhawks will now face Valdosta State in a best of three series next week. A host site is yet to be determined, but the series will begin on Thursday, May 19.
