Blazer Bats Breakout Early, #12 Valdosta State Takes Game One Over #3 AUM 5-1

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In the opening game of the NCAA DII South Super Regional, the top-seeded Auburn University at Montgomery softball team fell to the three-seed Valdosta State 5-1 on Thursday evening to open the best-of-three series.

The Warhawks drop a home game for just the third time this season and fall in the first game. Valdosta State now just needs one more win tomorrow to clinch a berth in the NCAA DII World Series in Denver next week.

Brinkley Yevak was spectacular in relief of Alanna Goble and Morgan Ferguson. The sophomore threw 5.1 innings in relief and allowed just one hit. It was Yevak's first action since April 23 and her first-career appearance in an NCAA Super Regional.

Valdosta State quickly put pressure on the AUM defense in the top of the first inning. The Blazers were able to load the bases with nobody out and were able to scratch across two runs to take an early advantage over AUM.

The Blazers added three more runs in the following inning against Ferguson after an RBI triple and an RBI groundout ran the score to 4-0. Valdosta State's scoring in game one concluded after Ally Clegg launched a solo shot to put VSU up 5-0 after two.

AUM was able to record their first and only run of the ballgame in the bottom of the third inning as Olivia Aycock was able to race a ball off the Valdosta State third basemen's glove to allow Faith Wheat to score from third.

AUM will look to keep their season alive tomorrow afternoon in game two against Valdosta State. The Warhawks will need to beat the Blazers twice tomorrow, and the first of two potential games is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
