PRESEASON ALL-GSC TEAM | GSC NEWCOMERS WATCHLIST

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team was picked to finish seventh in the 2023 preseason Gulf South Conference Coaches poll, as announced by the league on Thursday.

Outfielder Brody Syer and pitcher Luke Turner were also named to the Preseason All-GSC team, while newcomers Cooper Doughman, Grant Hickman, and Clay Weatherly were named to the league's Newcomer Watchlist.

Syer, an Oxford, Ala. native, was a Second Team All-GSC selection last season. Syer was the team leader in hits (60), batting average (.339), RBIs (55), home runs (7), multi-hit games (16), and multi-RBI games (14). He also ranked fourth in the league in RBIs and hit .380 with runners in scoring position.

Turner, a Saraland, Ala. native, was also a Second Team All-GSC honoree last year. Turner posted a 6-4 record in 14 starts and turned in four complete games. His 3.62 earned run average was sixth in the league among qualified starters, and his four complete games ranked fifth in the GSC. Turner led the team in strikeouts with 64 in 74.2 innings logged.

The Warhawks posted a 30-21 overall record last season that included an 18-12 mark in conference play en route to being the fourth overall seed in the GSC tournament. AUM posted a 20-6 record at Q.V. Lowe Field that included series wins over Embry-Riddle University, Mississippi College, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the University of West Alabama, Union (Tenn.) University, and Shorter University.

Doughman, a catcher from LaGrange, Ga., joins the Warhawks as a transfer from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College as part of the GSC's Newcomer Watchlist. Hickman, a pitcher from Tuscaloosa, Ala., comes to Montgomery from Shelton State Community College. Weatherly, who hails from Smiths Station, Ala., joins the program as a transfer pitcher from Chattahoochee Valley Community College.
