MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The AUM baseball team split a doubleheader against Montevallo on Saturday at QV Lowe Field to win the series on the final day of the 2025 season. AUM took the frist game of the day, 13-12, with a 4-run eighth before dropping the final game, 14-4.
AUM finished the season 14-33 overall and 11-22 in the Gulf South Conference. The Warhawks honors 12 seniors prior to the first game.
Game 1 - AUM 13, UM 12
After the Falcons pushed a run across in the first, the Warhawks countered with a
Zach Dew RBI triple in the bottom half. UM answered with a 4-run second to claim a 5-1 lead.
Another 4-run frame followed as UM extended its lead to 9-2. AUM then got hot, scoring four in the third and then tying the game in the fourth at 9-9 on a
Riley Orr 3-run home run.
UM regained the lead in the seventh with an unearned run and grew its lead to 12-9 on a Connor Crowson 3-run homer.
In the eighth,
Brendan York tripled and scored from third on a wild pitch to pull within 12-10.
Tyrese Rooks and
Riley Orr both walked before
Zach Dew homered to left to put the Warhawks up 13-12. Both Orr and Dew finished the season with a team-high nine home runs.
Orr finished 2-for-3 with two walks, five RBI and four runs scored.
Lawrence Gallo (1-1) earned the win and
Jayce James picked up his first save for AUM. The staff combined to strike out 10 Falcons with five from
Ryan Slaten in 4.1 innings of 3-hit relief.
Game 2 - UM 14, AUM 4
After Montevallo scored four in the first, AUM countered with two in each of the first two innings to knot it at 4-4. The Falcons added one in the fourth, two in the sixth before putting the game away with seven in the seventh.
The top four in the lineup all had at least one hit, with Rooks going 3-for-4 with a run and RBI. York also had a multi-hit performance with two base knocks, a run and an RBI.
AUM struggled to drive in runs, leaving eight runners on base, including the bases loaded in both the third and fourth innings.
Clay Slagle (2-3) went 5.2 innings and allowed seven runs while striking out six with one walk.
