Montevallo Uses Last-Second Shot to Defeat Men's Basketball 98-96

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The University of Montevallo knocked down a three-pointer with less than three seconds to play to defeat the Auburn University at Montgomery men's basketball team 98-96 on Saturday night in a fast-paced Gulf South Conference matchup inside Trustmark Arena. 
 
The game featured 81 possessions for each team and featured 16 lead changes.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Montevallo got the game started with a layup made by Braxton Bertolette and the Warhawks responded with a Joseph Lanzi mid-range jumper. 
  • Travis Anderson went 5-of-8 from beyond the arc in the first half and made his fifth at the 10:07 mark to give AUM a 31-24 lead. 
  • Montevallo tied the game at 44 and James Graham responded with an alley-oop off the assist from Lanzi with 3:08 left on the clock in the first half. 
  • Montevallo's Mason Shifflett made a shot from long-range to tie the game at 52 headed into the halftime break. 
  • AUM started the second half on a 9-0 run to go up 61-54 at the 17:17 mark in the second half. 
  • Shifftlett made two free throws to give Montevallo a 64-63 lead at the 14:44 mark in the second half. 
  • AUM trailed the majority of the second half until James Graham made a free-throw with 18 seconds left. Montevallo's James McNeil made a three-pointer on the next possession to push UM over the Warhawks. 
NOTABLES
  • Travis Anderson scored 23 points and was 7-of-11 from three-point range. 
  • James Graham tallied 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and five blocks.
  • Lanzi added 17 points and had six assists. He was 7-of-17 from the field.
  • Jalen Gaston chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds with a pair of blocks.
  • AUM shot 55.6 percent and was 35-of-63 from the field. The Warhawks were 11-of-26 from long range and 15-of-24 from the charity stripe. 
  • The Warhawks blocked 10 shots, marking the third game of the season that AUM has swatted double-digit shots.
