MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team fell 3-2 in Gulf South Conference competition on Tuesday night inside the AUM Athletics Complex against Mississippi College.

HIGHLIGHTS

• The Warhawks jumped out of the gate hitting on all cylinders and rallied to a 7-3 lead after a kill from Myllena Torquetti. A kill from Keren Santana and a service ace from Alessia Cappai helped the Warhawks extend the lead to 13-5. AUM controlled the entire set and with four kills in a row from Cappai, Ruth Sconocchini, Santana, and Torquetti gave them a 1-0 lead in the match after a 25-13 first-set victory. 
• MC took an early 4-0 lead in the second set, but AUM got back on track and found themselves with a 9-7 lead after Savannah Sebek served a five-point rally. The rest of the set was a battle as the two teams traded leads. Kyla Ffrench delivered a kill that gave the Warharks a 25-24 lead and after an attack error on the Choctaws and a block from Maya Thompson, AUM captured the second set 26-24 
• The Choctaws found their groove in the third set and never let AUM lead in the set. MC took the third set 25-14 and made the score 2-1. 
• Mississippi College did not slow down in the fourth set and took a 5-2 lead early in the set. Back-to-back kills from Sconocchini and Thompson made it 5-4, but the Choctaws rallied and held the Warhawks from getting any momentum in the set and evened the match at 2-2 after the 25-10 fourth set victory. 
• In the fifth set, AUM took an 8-6 lead after an attack error on MC, then the teams swapped sides and MC got back in sync and managed to outscore the Warhawks 9-2 in the set and complete the comeback and win 3-2.  

STATS OF THE MATCH

• Cappai had a strong game with 12 kills and dug nine balls. 
• Kaleigh Fitzgerald was the leader in digs for AUM with 15 on the night and she also posted four service aces. 
• Santana had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. 
• Amber Bretwisch and Savannah Sebek each had 17 assists and combined for 34. 
• Torquetti was the strongest hitter for AUM with a percentage of .364 with six kills on 11 attacks.

The Warhawks host the University of Montevallo on Friday, October 6 at 1 p.m. and The University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, October 7 at 2 p.m. inside the AUM Athletics Complex.
