Volleyball Downs Union 3-1 In GSC Action

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Auburn University at Montgomery volleyball team took down Union University 3-1 on Friday evening inside the Fred DeLay Gymnasium in a Gulf South Conference matchup in Jackson, Tennessee.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • AUM owned a 20-12 lead in the first set after Kaleigh Fitzgerald served an ace and Giulia Santuari had a kill. Union tried to chip away at the lead, but a Maya Thompson kill and an attack error on the Bulldogs gave AUM a 25-18 first set victory. 
  • The second set was a set of runs as Union had a 7-0 run and AUM posted an 8-0 run that featured a kill from Keren Santana to make the score 13-11 in favor of AUM. Union closed the set with a seven-point rally to capture the set victory. 
  • The Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Auburn Montgomery chipped away at the lead and kills from Ruth Sconocchini and Kendall McCain helped push them in front 19-16. After exchanging points the score was 24-24 and Kyla Ffrench delivered a kill and a attack error ended the set and AUM went up 2-1 in the match. 
  • Set four was similar to set two, however AUM came out on front. The Warhawks jumped to a 7-2 lead. AUM was able to extend it to 19-10 after a kill from Myllena Torquetti gave them some momentum. Union battled back, but McCain struck a kill and clinched the match 3-1 for AUM. 
STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Santuari led AUM with 12 kills in the match on 24 total attacks. 
  • McCain had eight kills on the night. 
  • Fitzgerald dug 20 balls for the Warhawk defense. 
  • Amber Bretwisch and Savannah Sebek combined for 37 assists.

The Warhawks stay in Tennessee as they take on Christian Brothers University in the regular season finale on Saturday, November 11 at 2 p.m. in Memphis.
