Women's Basketball Falls at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team dropped their first Gulf South Conference matchup of the 2023-24 season Saturday afternoon inside The Coliseum at the University of West Georgia 77-73. 

The Warhawks connected on 12 three-pointers in the game with Allasha Dudley leading the way with 19 points going 5-for-8 from downtown.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tian Addison scored the first AUM points of the afternoon with a fastbreak layup and it was followed with the Wolves going on a 7-0 run to take a 9-2 lead just three minutes into the game. 
  • Dudley made a jumper in the paint with 4:35 remaining in the first quarter that saw AUM take their first lead of the game at 10-9. 
  • The Wolves lead grew to 12 points in the second quarter, and AUM's Brianna Sanchez scored a basket off an assist from Grace O'Gara to cut into the UWG lead with 2:16 to go in the half.
  • West Georgia responded with back-to-back three pointers to close out the half with a 42-29 lead. 
  • UWG's lead continued to grow in the third quarter and eventually got to 17 as the third quarter ended. 
  • AUM outscored the Wolves 26-13 in the fourth quarter and cut the lead back to single digits with 5:51 to go in the game with a three-pointer from Kamya Hollingshed
  • Jamya Tyus knocked down a shot from long range with 31 seconds left to make it 76-70, but the Wolves held off AUM's comeback attemt and won 77-73. 
NOTABLES
  • The Warhawks had four players reach double-digits in the scoring column. Dudley scored 19, Hollingshed had 16, Danielle Luckey posted 14, and Jamya Tyus had 10. 
  • Luckey posted her second double-double of the year with 10 boards and 14 points. 
  • Dudley and O'Gara dished out five assists in the game. 
NEXT UP

AUM returns home on Monday, November 27 to face The University of Alabama in Huntsville at the AUM Athletics Complex at 5:30 PM in GSC action.
