Florida Tech Finds Late Rally in Win Over Baseball

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Auburn University at Montgomery pitcher Luke Turner and Florida Institute of Technology pitcher Sean Means combined to allow just two runs on 11 hits against nine strikeouts in 13 innings of work, but it was the Panthers that manufactured a pair of eighth-inning runs on their way to a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon at Sliwa Stadium.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers of Florida Tech used a single, a hit-by-pitch, and a sacrifice fly to score the first run in the bottom of the first inning.
  • After Brody Syer worked a walk and Zach Dew singled in the top of the second inning, Cole Kehoe answered the bell for the Warhawks as he laced a single up the middle to plate Syer and tie the game 1-1.
  • Turner and Means combined to shut out each opposing lineup from the second inning through the seventh, with just seven total hits between the two teams in that stretch.
  • With two outs in the eighth, Florida Tech rallied to take the lead in the contest. A base hit brought home a run, and a fielding error by AUM allowed the Panthers.

ON THE MOUND

  • Turner went seven strong innings in the no-decision for the Warhawks. He allowed just one run on nine hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.
  • Michael Myers (0-2) was saddled with the loss as he gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits in one inning of work.

NOTABLES

  • Turner logged his sixth career start in which he allowed just one earned run or less. His last such effort came on April 2, 2022, when he did not allow a run over seven innings in a win against West Alabama.
  • Jackson Ceman registered his second stolen base of the campaign and the eighth for AUM in nine tries this season.
  • Cole Kehoe made his first career start in the lineup as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
