Softball Bounces Back Against Rollins College on Final Day of Panther Invitational

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Auburn University at Montgomery softball team scored five runs in the first three innings as they took down Rollins College 7-1 on Sunday morning in the Panther Invitational.

HIGHLIGHTS 
  • The Warhawk bats came out swinging in full force with Allie Miller striking a single. Kat Fallen hit a triple down the right field line and scored Miller from second base. 
  • Molly Cobb reached first base on a fielding error by Rollins and Fallen scored from second base. 
  • AUM found two more runs in the top of the second inning when Chloe Baynes reached first base on an error and Olivia Aycock scored the third run. 
  • Fallen got her second RBI of the game after a single through the right side and Baynes scored an unearned run as AUM went up 4-0. 
  • In the top of the third inning, the Warhawks rattled off another run after Chloe Derrick singled and Lexie Love brought her home on the next at-bat with a single to left field. 
  • Rollins scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after Grace Germer singled to the left side and made it to third base on a wild pitch and a single. Ashley Worrell stepped to the plate and scored Germer with a single. 
  • AUM added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Gia Martin reached base on a fielding error and Faith Wheat and Fallen were able to score the final runs of the ball game. 
ON THE MOUND 
  • Sydni Free earned her first win of the season going the full 7.0 innings. She gave up one run on six hits in her first career-start. Free did not walk a batter and struck three out. 
NOTABLES
  • Fallen delivered a season-high of three hits and batted in two runs. Fallen scored two runs and hit the first triple of the season for the Warhawks. 
  • Derrick extended her streak of reaching base to seven. 
  • Aycock registered a season-high of two hits and scored one run. 
  • Free made her third appearance of the season and her first career start on the mound.

"We played well today," head softball coach Scottie Wilkes said. "Sydni pitched a great game, the defense was solid behind her, and our offense put pressure on their defense, along with some timely defense. Overall, it was a solid performance by our team," 

UP NEXT

AUM welcomes Christian Brothers University to the AUM Softball Complex on Saturday, February 18 for the first Gulf South Conference series of the season. Game one of the doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
