Softball Completes Sweep Over Christian Brothers on Sunday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team completed the three-game Gulf South Conference sweep over Christian Brothers University 8-0 on Sunday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex.

The Warhawks found a run in all innings except for the second in the six inning game.

HIGHLIGHTS 
  • Chloe Baynes got on base off an error by the CBU catcher and eventually scored after Molly Cobb delivered a single to center field. 
  • In the third inning, Lexi Love grounded out into a fielder's choice and Shelby Edgeworthe scored the second run of the day. 
  • AUM had a big fourth inning and it started off with Allie Miller laying down a bunt which lead Baynes and Olivia Aycock to score off a throwing error by CBU. 
  • Rebecca Komers hit her third homer of the season in the fifth inning to give AUM a 6-0 advantage. 
  • Shelby Newsome had a sacrifice fly to right field and scored Lexie Bullock
  • AUM scored the final run of the day in the sixth inning off Cobb's third hit of the day and scored Faith Wheat to end the game 8-0. 
ON THE MOUND 
  • Sydni Free earned her second win of the season by going 6.0 innings and allowing no runs on three hits.
NOTABLES 
  • Cobb has connected on a hit in the last six games and has had six games with more than one hit. 
  • Komers has now gone yard in back-to-back games. She has tallied three home runs this season. 
  • AUM has opened GSC play 3-0 for the third straight year.

"What a great way to open up conference play," head softball coach Scottie Wilkes said. "We executed well and I am very proud of the team effort this weekend!"

UP NEXT

 AUM hits the road to Rome, Georgia to take on Shorter University in a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday, February 21. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
