Women's Basketball Falls on Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala - The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team dropped the final game of the 2022-23 season on Senior Day against the University of Montevallo 79-63 inside the AUM Athletics Complex in a Gulf South Conference matchup. 

Prior to tip-off, the Warhawks honored seniors Derienne Black and Monika Johnson

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Johnson got the Warhawks on the board with a layup around eight minute mark in the first quarter. 
  • Black made a free-throw early in the first quarter to give AUM a 6-5 lead, but the Falcons responded and took the lead and held onto it for the entire first quarter leading 21-16 at the end of the first quarter. 
  • AUM retook the lead in the second quarter after Jemeriah Moore made a jumper and Kamya Hollingshed extended the lead to four points with a made three-pointer. 
  • The two teams traded baskets and at the end of the first half the score was even at 37. 
  • The Falcons took a lead early in the third quarter and lead for the majority of it until Jordyn Maddix buried a three to put AUM up 49-47. AUM controlled the lead until Montevallo's Shyan Flack made a pair of free-throws to put UM up 58-57 at the 5:25 mark in the fourth quarter. 
  • The Warhawks were outscored 21-6 in the final five minutes of the game and Montevallo got the 79-63 victory. 
NOTABLES
  • Black scored a season-high of 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field. She grabbed eight rebounds for the second time this season and was able to snatch five steals. 
  • Maddix scored 11 points and was 3-of-5 from longe range. 
  • Johnson had seven points and brought down a season-high of 12 boards. 
  • Montevallo was 25-of-32 from the charity stripe and AUM was 10-of-15.
