MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery baseball team played two close games to begin their 2023 home season but ultimately fell in both games of the doubleheader against No. 16 Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday at Q.V. Lowe Field.
The Warhawks scratched across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning of game one to send it to extra innings, but the Bears answered with a Blake Bean two-RBI single that help deliver a 6-4 win for the Bears in game one. The visitors then overcame five errors in game two with eight runs on 11 hits to win 8-4.

HIGHLIGHTS (GM 1)
- Lenoir-Rhyne scored first, with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, using an RBI single and a throwing error on a failed pick-off attempt by the Warhawks.
- AUM got a run back in the sixth thanks to a Cooper Doughman RBI double, which plated Jarren Wright, before they took the lead in the seventh inning.
- Wright's 2-RBI single through the right side scored Nick Freeman and Clayton Phillips in the seventh as AUM took a 3-2 lead.
- A two-run homer pushed the Bears back on top 4-3 in the eighth.
- Freeman scored the tying run in the ninth to send the game to extra innings knotted at 4-4.
- The Bears put runners on and notched a 2-RBI single in the top half of the 10th that led to a 6-4 win.
ON THE MOUND (GM 1)
- Andrew Cronan worked five innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits with four strikeouts in the no-decision for AUM.
- Wade Chandler gave up one hit and one unearned run in 2.1 innings of relief work in his season debut. He also added three strikeouts.
- Michael Myers worked 1.1 innings and tallied two strikeouts out of the bullpen.
- Mason Elmore (0-1) was struck with the loss after giving up two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning of relief work.
HIGHLIGHTS (GM 2)
- A controversial two-run homer down the left-field line in the top of the second inning put LR up 2-0 in game two.
- AUM plated a run in the fourth after Zach Dew scored on an error.
- Lenoir-Rhyne put three more runs on the board to lead 5-1 before Brook Brannon's RBI double plated Dew in the sixth inning to make it 5-2.
- The Warhawks scored a run in the seventh and the eighth innings, but it was not enough as the Bears secured game two 8-4.

NOTABLES
- Cole McWhorter started game two of the doubleheader and went 1-for-2 between the two games with an infield single, three walks, and a stolen base.
- Wright was 3-for-4 in game one with a run scored and 2 RBI.
- Freeman walked four times, drove in a run, and scored two runs between both games of the doubleheader.
- The Warhawks left 21 men on base between both games.
- Kasey Clark (2-for-4) and Phillips (2-for-5) also added a multi-hit game in game one of the afternoon.
- AUM mustered just four extra-base hits on the day. Dew posted two of them with a double in each game, while Brannon and Doughman added the other two.
