Softball Takes GSC Series Over Union

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team clinched the Gulf South Conference series over Union University on Saturday afternoon at the USJ Softball Stadium by a final score of 11-3. 

Game two of the doubleheader was canceled in the early stages of the game due to inclement weather.

HIGHLIGHTS 
  • Gia Martin got the day started with a three RBI triple to right field that gave the Warhawks an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. 
  • Faith Wheat knocked a two RBI single later in the inning to give AUM a 5-0 lead. 
  • Molly Cobb got in on the fun in the top of the second with a RBI double that scored Chloe Baynes. 
  • Haley Ann Frank singled to center field and scored Cobb to extend the AUM lead to 7-0 in the second. 
  • Cobb tallied a sacrifice fly to right field and scored Wheat in the third inning. 
  • Union scored its first run of the day in the third inning to get one run back. 
  • Baynes chipped in with an RBI single to the outfield that scored Olivia Aycock in the fourth inning. 
  • Chloe Derrick joined the party with a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning to give AUM their 11th run of the day. 
  • The Lady Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth but, it was not enough as the Warhawks earned the run-rule victory 11-3 over Union. 
IN THE CIRCLE 
  • Sydni Free (W, 4-4) tossed the entire five inning game allowing three earned runs on nine hits. She struck two batters out and walked one batter on the day. 
NOTABLES
  • Allie Miller extended her hitting and reaching base streak to nine games in a row.  
  • Baynes had a multi-hit game which was her 12th of the season. 
  • AUM's 14 hits are tied for second most this season in a game. 
UP NEXT

The Warhawks return to the AUM Softball Complex on Tuesday, March 14 for a doubleheader against Columbus State University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
