Love Hits Two Homers in Doubleheader Sweep Over Columbus State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team picked up two wins against Columbus State University on Tuesday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex by final scores of 10-3 and 4-2 in nonconference games.

HIGHLIGHTS (GM 1)
  • Gia Martin got the scoring started for the Warhawks with a solo shot to center field. It was followed by Faith Wheat recording a RBI double and Lexi Love hitting a two run homer to left field to give AUM a 4-0 lead. 
  • Wheat knocked another double that scored two runs in the third inning and Allie Miller singled through the left side and scored Wheat. 
  • The Cougars got three runs in the fifth with a RBI single and a two RBI single to right field to make it 7-3. 
  • Love knocked her second ball out of the park in the fifth inning over the oleft field wall. 
  • Olivia Aycock tallied a RBI single in the sixth and it was followed by Wheat sacrifice flying to center field and scored Chloe Derrick for the final run of the game. AUM got the 10-3 win over Columbus State. 
ON THE MOUND (GM 1)
  • Morgan Ferguson (W, 6-3) got the win in the circle going the complete seven inning game allowing three runs on four hits. She struck 13 batters out on the day. 
HIGHLIGHTS (GM 2)
  • Columbus State scored first in game one in the top of the first frame with a RBI single to right field. 
  • AUM utilized a double-steal with Aycock taking second base and Martin stole home for the first run of the second game in the bottom of the second. 
  • Martin sacrifice flew out to left field and Shelby Edgeworth scored a run to give AUM a 2-1 lead. 
  • Columbus State tied it right back up in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly to left field. 
  • Martin scored a throwing error by Columbus State and AUM retook the lead and afterward Rebecca Komers scored a run on a sacrifice fly from Lexi Love. 
ON THE MOUND (GM 2)
  • Avery Dickerson (W, 6-2) went the distance in the circle for AUM allowing two runs on five hits. She struck five batters out. 
UP NEXT

AUM will host the University of Montevallo for a three-game Gulf South Conference series beginning on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m.
