Softball Takes Down Lee Twice to Open GSC Series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team took care of business on Saturday against Lee University in the opening doubleheader of a three-game Gulf South Conference series. The Warhawks won the duo of games by scores of 8-0 and 10-2 at the AUM Softball Complex.

HIGHLIGHTS (GM 1)
  • Kat Fallen got the day started for the Warhawks by reaching base on a fielding error and scored Allie Miller to go up 1-0.
  • Auburn Montgomery scored five runs in the third to take a 6-0 lead highlighted by a couple of RBI singles and a two RBI single from Faith Wheat. 
  • Allie Miller bunted to the pitcher and scored Wheat in the fifth inning. 
  • Molly Cobb knocked in a two RBI single to end the game as the Warhawks won 9-0. 
ON THE MOUND (GM 1)
  • Morgan Ferguson (4-3) worked five complete innings giving up no runs on three hits while striking four batters out. 
HIGHLIGHTS (GM 2)
  • AUM struck first in the first inning with Cobb grounding out and scoring Chloe Baynes to put AUM up 1-0. 
  • Chloe Derrick blasted her second homer of the year with a solo shot in the second inningg.
  • After a RBI single by Lexi Love, Chloe Baynes delivered a RBI triple to push the score to 4-0. Miller singled up the middle and scored Baynes to end the scoring for AUM in the second inning. 
  • Lee got two runs back in the third to make it 5-2. 
  • Miller singled to rigght field and Baynes and Wheat were able to cross home plate to give the Warhawks their sixth and seventh run of the day. 
  • Baynes singled to centerfield in the fifth to score Wheat and the final run of the day came from Cobb delivering a sacrifice fly that scored Baynes to close the game 10-2. 
ON THE MOUND (GM 2)
  • Avery Dickerson (5-2) went five innings giving up two runs on six hits and striking two batters out. 
UP NEXT

The Warhawks and Lady Flames will meet on Sunday, March 5 at 1 p.m. at the AUM Softball Complex to complete the three-game series.
