Softball Falls In Game Three of GSC Series At West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team fell on Saturday at the UWF Softball Complex against the University of West Florida by a final score of 9-8 in the Gulf South Conference series finale. The Warhawks took the series two games out of three.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • West Florida took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after scoring on a wild pitch. 
  • Chloe Derrick took a ball over the left field fence to even the score at 1-1 in the second inning. The Argos retook the lead at 3-1 in the bottom of the second after Jessica Ford homered to right field that scored two runs. 
  • The Warhawks tied it up in the third inning with Allie Miller tallying a RBI double and Kat Fallen knocking a RBI single to make it a 3-3 game. 
  • West Florida plated five runs in the third inning to go up 8-3. 
  • Fallen started the comeback for AUM with a double to left field that brought Molly Cobb and Shelby Newsome home in the fourth inning. 
  • Back-to-back singles for the Warhawks in the sixth frame evened the score at 8-8 after three runs were plated for AUM. 
  • A single and fielder's choice pushed Vasquez to second base and a single from Kayla Mayo pushed Madelyn Vasquez over home plate for the game-winning run for UWF. 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Alanna Goble made her first start of the 2023 season and worked one inning and gave up one run on one hit and struck two batters out. 
  • Sydni Free and Morgan Fergson came in relief and the duo worked 1.2 innings and allowed seven runs on six hits. Ferguson allowed five runs and Free had two. 
  • Avery Dickerson (L, 11-4) absorbed the loss after tossing four innings of relief and giving up one run on five hits. She struck a batter out and walked a pair.

AUM welcomes No. 9 Valdosta State University into the AUM Softball Complex on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. to begin another GSC series.
