Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Over No. 13 Valdosta State On Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team took two games from 13th-ranked Valdosta State University on Saturday afternoon at the AUM Softball Complex to begin the Gulf South Conference series by final scores of 2-1 and 9-1. 

Prior to the game the Warhawks honored Allie Miller and Olivia Aycock as the 2023 seniors.

HIGHLIGHTS (GM 1)
  • Chloe Derrick scored the first run of the day with a solo homer over the center field wall that put the Warhawks up 1-0. 
  • Both teams were held scoreless until Valdosta State's Jasmin Stewart tied the game at one a piece with a home run in the sixth inning. 
  • Martin belted a homer in the bottom of the seventh over the right field wall that gave AUM the 2-1 victory. 
IN THE CIRCLE (GM 1)
  • Morgan Ferguson (W, 11-4) tossed the complete seven inning game and allowed one earned run on six hits. She struck seven batters out. 
HIGHLIGHTS (GM 2)
  • AUM carried the momentum from the first game into game two scoring three runs in the first inning off two VSU errors a groundout that brought Shelby Edgeworth home. 
  • Molly Cobb earned a RBI in the second inning as she scored Margaret Morgan to push the Warhawks up 4-0. 
  • Faith Wheat delivered a sacrifice fly that scored Derrick in the third inning to make it 5-0.
  • The Blazers had a solo homer in the fourth inning to cut the AUM lead to 5-1. 
  • Allie Miller registered an RBI single in the fourth inning and scored Chloe Baynes. It was followed with back-to-back bases loaded walks that scored two more AUM runs to make it 8-1. 
  • Morgan knocked a single through the left side that brought Kat Fallen home and the Warhawks earned the 9-1 victory in five innings. 
IN THE CIRCLE (GM 2)
  • Avery Dickerson (W, 12-4) tossed five innings and gave up one earned run on one hit and picked up six strikeouts along the way. 
UP NEXT

The Warhawks and Blazers return to the AUM Softball Complex on Sunday, April 23 to complete the GSC series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
