NCAA SOUTH REGION PREVIEW: Softball Begins South Regional On Thursday

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Auburn University at Montgomery softball team begins competition in the 2023 NCAA South Region against the No. 2 seed and 11th-ranked Saint Leo University on Thursday, May 11 at 11 a.m. (CT) at the University Softball Stadium on the campus of Saint Leo.

The Warhawks bring in a 35-17 overall record into the tournament and finished 22-7 in the Gulf South Conference. Saint Leo owns a 42-10 record after finishing 23-7 in the Sunshine State Conference portion of their schedule.

Gia Martin is riding a seven-game hit streak and has homered six times in her last eight games with 14 runs batted in. Chloe Derrick has a team-high 13 home runs this season and has driven in 50 runs after being named All-GSC First Team.

All-GSC Second Team member Chloe Baynes leads the team with a batting average of .410 with 68 hits. Baynes and Martin have been walked 24 times each. Infielder Kat Fallen enters the tournament on a streak of reaching base in 24 consecutive games. Fallen has 48 hits and has driven in 54 runs.

The AUM pitching staff is led by All-GSC Second Team selections Avery Dickerson and Morgan Ferguson. The duo has combined for 27 wins in the circle and 165 strikeouts with Ferguson owning 99. Dickerson carried an ERA of 2.60 into the South Regional.
