SAINT LEO, Fla. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Saint Leo University in the 2023 season opener on Saturday night, as Charlie Elliott's 79th-minute header gave the Warhawks a lead they did not relinquish.
Goalkeeper William Blake pitched his first black and orange shutout and made a pair of crucial saves late in the game to help keep the Warhawks in front.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Warhawks took a handful of shots in the first half, but neither side had any real scoring chances early on.
- Both teams ended the first half in a scoreless draw.
- The second half saw AUM continue to keep the pressure on Saint Leo, and the Warhawks eventually capitalized.
- After Roach took a corner kick that caromed back out top in the 79th minute, Brayden Strait slid a pass back to Roach on the left side. Roach subsequently delivered a near-perfect ball into the box, where Charlie Elliott was waiting to clean things up with a header.
- Blake notched two important saves in the match's final seven minutes to help keep the Lions off the board.

- The Warhawks edged the Lions 12-6 in shots, while each team registered three shots on goal.
- Blake posted his first clean sheet for the Warhawks, as he saved all three of Saint Leo's shots on goal for the match.
- Seven yellow cards were shown in the match in total, with AUM drawing three of them.
- Elliott's goal marked the seventh of his career, and his third game-winning tally.
- Roach's assist was his fourth in an AUM uniform.
