KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Fresh off a pair of results to open the 2023 season, the Auburn University at Montgomery men's soccer team debuted at No. 7 in the initial United Soccer Coaches South Region Poll.
The Warhawks posted a 1-0 win over Saint Leo University to begin the season on a high note. Goalkeeper
William Blake kept a clean sheet in goal, and
Charlie Elliott tallied the game-winning goal in the 79th minute.
Logan Roach also registered an assist.
Blake was named Gulf South Conference defender of the week for his shutout and three saves against the Lions in the season opener.
AUM followed that up with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the University of Tampa.
Yanis Lasri and
Andrew Strait combined to assist a
Franck Kouentchi goal in the 54th minute as the Warahwks came way from the weekend with four points.
The Warhawks return to the AUM Soccer Complex on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. as they host the University of Mobile (Ala.).
