Defense Sends Women's Basketball Past Shorter, 55-30

Best AUM Defensive Performance Since Joining NCAA Division II

ROME, Ga. -- The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team won their fourth straight game with a 55-30 victory at Shorter University on Saturday afternoon inside the Winthrop-King Centre in a Gulf South Conference matchup in Rome, Georgia.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tian Addison sparked a 10-2 run with a made three-pointer just 19 seconds into the game. The run consisted of layups from Danielle Luckey and Brianna Sanchez, along with Addison's second three-pointer midway into the first quarter. 
  • Auburn Montgomery closed the first quarter the same way they began the game with a buzzer beater three-pointer from Addison to give them a 14-7 lead. 
  • Kamya Hollingshed dished an assist to Allasha Dudley as the second quarter began as Dudley connected from long-range. 
  • Shorter trimmed the lead to five points after Ansley Barge made a jumper at the 7:09 mark in the second quarter. 
  • Addison got her second buzzer-beater three-pointer of the game as the first half expired to extend the AUM lead to 31-19. 
  • Dudley scored on a fastbreak opportunity around the 2:30 mark in the third quarter to give the Warhawks a 42-25 advantage in the third quarter. 
  • Jemeriah Moore got a layup and a three-pointer to fall as the fourth quarter began to push the lead to 52-25. 
  • Grace O'Gara rattled in the ninth AUM three-pointer of the contest late in the fourth quarter as they earned the 55-30 victory. 
NOTABLES
  • Addison scored 15 points from beyond the arc along with four assists and five rebounds. 
  • Dudley dropped 12 points and reached double-digits for the 13th time this season. She handed out four assists. 
  • Sanchez posted 13 rebounds in the matchup and picked up a block. 
  • The 30 points allowed against Shorter is the best defensive performance since AUM knocked off Emmanuel University 60-30 on January 30, 2010. 
FROM THE SIDELINE

"A nice team road for us to end the week," head coach Jon Plefka said. "Any win especially on the road is very important this late in the season. It's been a tough week with three games, but we persevered and now are preparing for two huge home games beginning Thursday night."

AUM returns to the AUM Athletics Complex on Thursday, February 1 against Mississippi College at 5:30 p.m. in a GSC showdown.
