MONTGOMERY, Ala. -
Logan Roach scored on a throw in in the 66th minute to lift the No. 11 AUM men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Alabama Hunteville at the AUM Soccer Complex on Friday night.
The win is the third-consecutive for AUM (5-0-3, 3-0 Gulf South), who remained as one of just 12 teams in the country without a loss. UAH (1-3-3, 0-2-1) was unable to collect a win for the fifth-consecutive outing.
On Friday, the Warhawks struck first, taking advantage of a poor clearance by the Chargers.
Nick Atkinson fired a shot from outside the penalty area over a crowd of players that was stopped by UAH goalkeeper Ethan Haworth. But the Charger wasn't able to corral the ball and the rebound went to
Benjamin Hoffman who slipped in into the back of the goal for his fourth score of the season. It was the third-consecutive game the freshman has found the back of the net.
The lead didn't last long as UAH tied it nine minutes later on a throw-in score of its own. Tyson Balleza threw the ball into the box where Wesley Atoyebi headed it into space for Xavier Martin to score the equalizer. It was Martin's second of the season and the first scored on AUM's
Alfie Rule this season.
The teams went into the intermission tied at 1-1.
Roach's score came 20 minutes into the second half on a throw-in from
Landon Surratt that cleared the mass of players and found Roach alone on the back post for the one-timer on a bounce. It is Roach's third career goal and second game-winner in three seasons at AUM.
Rule held the lead with two saves in the second half to improve to 3-0-1 on the year.
AUM will conclude its 4-game home stand on Sunday afternoon when West Alabama (3-3-2, 1-2-1) Â comes to town for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
