Keane's Late Goal Lifts Warhawks To 2-2 Tie With UWA

AUM outshot UWA 18-8 and took nine total corner kicks

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The eighth-ranked AUM men's soccer team scored two goals in the second half to come away with a 2-2 tie against West Alabama at the AUM Soccer Complex on Sunday.

AUM (5-0-4, 3-0-1 Gulf South) remained in first place in the GSC standings with 10 points. The Warhawks got goals from Benjamin Hoffman and Sean Keane.

UWA (3-3-3, 1-2-2) held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but was unable to control the possession for most of the second half as AUM outshot the Tigers 12-2 with four corner kick opportunities as well.

UWA scored first in the 31st minute when the Tigers' Joe Wright and the Warhawks' Landon Surratt banged feet on each side of the ball just on the AUM side of midfield. Wright came away with it and then after a few dribbles passed it to Michael Bell who then fed Wright on the left side of the box. The Tiger forward flicked the ball past a charging William Blake and into the goal before an AUM defender could clear it off the line.

AUM knotted things up in the 63rd minute on a corner kick off the foot of Logan Roach. The ball was served to Benjamin Hoffman who headed it behind him past five UWA defenders and goalkeeper Timon Dressel. It was the freshman's team-leading fifth goal of the season.

UWA regained the lead three minutes later when David Nunez sent a cross from the left side where Aiden Riley 1-timed it past Blake for his second score of the year.

The Warhawks had an opportunity to tie this contest late in the 86th minute but Roach's penalty kick was saved by Dressel. AUM did knot it at 2-2 with just 1:40 remaining in the game when Keane headed home a long free kick from Blake. It was second goal of the season and Blake's second career assist.
